Future of Blockchain: Algorand Foundation Partner Challenge Winners

The Algorand Foundation is proud to support the Future of Blockchain competition as a Gold partner. The Future of Blockchain was a competition for developers and entrepreneurs in the Universities of Cambridge, Oxford, London, Berlin and others to build a blockchain project over 3 months. Participants were invited to build a startup or answer a technical challenge set by a Gold partner. Sponsoring this competition, allows the Algorand Foundation to support and promote blockchain innovation.

The Algorand Foundation appreciates the importance of developing thriving blockchain ecosystems, having just launched a 250 million ALGO Grants Program, which provides funding across application development, tools & infrastructure, research, and education & community.

As a gold partner, the Algorand Foundation expanded our Future of Blockchain awards from three to five prizes in total due to the sheer quality of the submissions, with rewards totaling 85K ALGO. The first prize was awarded 25K ALGO, with the other four prizes each respectively winning 15K ALGO.

Here is a recap of the winning projects:

Winner of Asset Creation and Management Platform Challenge: 25k ALGO Prize

Decentralized Robinson List

The Algorand grand prize winner also featured as an overall Future of Blockchain competition finalist. The Robinson list is an opt-out list of people who do not wish to receive marketing communications.

Nowadays, Robinson lists are managed in centralized infrastructures. We aim at demonstrating that Robinson lists can be implemented in decentralized infrastructures thus empowering citizens in autonomously managing their own choices.

We implemented a PoC of the RPO (the Italian Robinson list) on Algorand and exploited some interesting technical ingredients such as assets, atomic transactions, and TEAL. Our PoC shows that Algorand can be considered an effective solution. The next step is to show that Algorand is also efficient in supporting the over 100m expected users and even more in a future trans-national deployment.

Winner of Metamask like Chrome Extension Challenge: 15k ALGO Prize

algoBox is an easy to use chrome extension that enables you to create Algorand wallets, transfer Algos, switch between various Algorand networks, schedule transactions for future dates, easy wallet management and more. It also exposes various APIs for developers to use, like approve and transfer functionalities.

Winner of Teal Challenge: 15k ALGO Prize

Rand Labs
Rand Labs built a fully functioning Algorand TEAL Explorer. This explorer was deployed on algoexplorer and able to display all transactions and addresses associated with a TEAL program, as well as link them to the address overview. Furthermore, we are able to decompile the code of the TEAL program to a human readable format. We also show the arguments in the TEAL program in BASE 64 and well as the compiled TEAL code, the Byte code, in base 64. The TEAL explorer works in Mainnet, Testnet, and Betanet.

Additional Winners: 15k ALGO Prize Respectively

Mango (AAM in Hindi) is an Algorand Asset Manager, which provides a web interface for users to create, freeze, revoke, modify, and destroy Algorand Standard Assets.

You start by importing your mnemonic phrase into the app (which is NEVER stored anywhere) - after which you can fill out web forms specifying the asset information to create it, or select a previously created asset to manage it. We use Angular 9 for the frontend, and a Go based REST API using the Algorand Go SDK. Additionally, while what we built for the competition meets the challenge requirements, we wish to expand this project to be a one-stop-hub for anything related to Algorand Assets, including but not limited to, transferring assets, performing atomic swaps, and indexing assets.

Non-Fungible Tokens in the form of tickets with allocation from the originators, enable reselling and handling ticket counterfeiting. Attendees can assure genuine tickets, without thinking about the complexity of underlying technology. Features include;

  • Decentralised ticket supply chain.
  • Ticket validation: helping against ticket counterfeiting.
  • Ticket reselling: enable reselling standards based on local regulations.
  • Non-Fungible assets in the form of tickets with allocation from the originator.

The above projects represent just a small taste for what’s possible on Algorand. Algorand, together with our community is building a trusted, public and permissionless infrastructure for the borderless economy. In support of our mission, we recently launched our 250 million ALGO Grants Program. Algorand is committed to encouraging and supporting blockchain innovation. This multi-year Grants Program offers various funding level opportunities across application development, tools & infrastructure, research, and education & community. These will empower innovation and development supporting the growth of a vibrant, diverse and thriving Algorand ecosystem.
